Your Care is our responsibility.

Personal care services are defined as "long-term care services provided in the home of older adults and adults with a disability who typically have limitations in their ability to perform basic activities of daily living ."Activities of daily living are sometimes referred to as ADLs and are meant to allow individuals to stay in the comfort of their own homes and maintain their quality of life. This is an excellent alternative to long-term care facilities or nursing homes, as it not only means that the person is more comfortable but also can mitigate expenses associated with 24/7 care.

Personal care services can include:

  • Doing laundry, folding, ironing, and putting away clothing
  • Preparing meals, including meal preparation for later in the day
  • Completing errands and shopping for necessities, such as groceries or clothing
  • Light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, making the bed, vacuuming, or other maintenance
  • Prompting the individual to learn new skills, such as assisting with laundry or cooking tasks
  • Ensuring the household is kept free from any barriers and individuals who are at risk of dangerous behaviors are kept safe (Ex: not using the stove, keeping the temperatures comfortable)
  • Monitoring the individual and participating in activities that they enjoy, like board games or conversations
  • Helping with hygiene, such as bathing, getting dressed, brushing teeth, putting on deodorant
  • Aiding with bathroom tasks, such as reminders to wash hands or change clothes as needed
  • Money management, such as assistance with paying bills, handling finances, or learning how to appropriately budget
  • Transportation with staff to appointments and ensuring physicians' orders are followed as directed. If the client would like, staff can also be included in appointments
  • Communicating with friends, family, and support circles and updating where appropriate on any changes of care

These services benefit individuals who need assistance but not full-time care. Not only does it provide some companionship and socialization, but it can also help teach people new adaptive skills. While those with limited mobility may no longer be able to go shopping with a home health care provider, they can find themselves going on errands while someone else pushes the cart or their chair.

Personal care services can be provided in the home or any other location, including in the community. Often, this service is used to help someone regain their independence or work collaboratively with a caregiver. When a change of condition occurs, it can be difficult for people to know where to begin. With a home health aide, they can regain some independence and learn how to complete tasks in a way that is pain-free and effective.

At Senior Shield Home Care, our staff knows what to look for in terms of any change in conditions and seeks to create a fulfilling environment and experience for the people they work with.
